MOD 12 VIDEO REVIEW

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.      - The reason I decided to watch the Andy Warhol: Images of an image, was because I have previously learned about him and how he affected the art world. I wanted to learn more about his art work and what influenced him.  2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.      For the Andy Warhol: images of an image video, the most interesting thing I learned was how  Andy never really wanted to become a an artist but a tap dancer instead. Yet, Rauschenberg’s collage suddenly triggered his desire for art and he became a famous painter too. His concept was very cool because he would cut out advertisements in newspapers and enlarged them with a projector.      For the, Art of Henry Moore  video,  It was interesting to know that Henry Moore tried drawing everything, anywhere. He began drawing anything from an...

ART GALLERY VISIT #2

Image
Questions about the exhibit:   1. What is the title of the  exhibit?  The title of the exhibit was Humble and Human.  2. What is the theme of the exhibition?  The exhibition  was in honor of Ralph  C. Wilson. In which during his lifetime collected painting by impressionist  artist like, Paul Cezanne, Edgar Degas, and Vincent Van Gogh. It's a celebration of works done in the late nineteenth century , which reflects the values  and ideas, that Ralph enjoyed the most.  Questions about the physical space: 1. What type of lighting is used? The lighting that was used was very specific because each section of the exhibit used yellow dimmed lights. It was simplistic in the way the lights were only on two ends of the room, focusing exactly on the art pieces, instead of having the lights focused on the center of the room.  2. What colors are used on the walls? The colors used on the walls might have been my favorit...

MOD 11 VIDEO REVIEW

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.      I chose these videos because I wanted to learn about the relationship between Matisse and Picasso. The way their art spoke for themselves, and how they compared and contrast. It was interesting to see the way their relationship was and the way it worked. There were sigs of respect, however it was not always friendly.   2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.     For the Matisse and Picasso video, a key concept I took was that painting and drawing are the same thing. Drawing is painting, simply with less material because its still possible to create different contrast through volumes and change the quality of the paper.    For the Cubism  video, something interesting I took from it was the fact that Duchamp claimed,  The Sad Young Man was a self portrait. However, the painting was a figure that was taken...

MASK MAKING

Image
The reason I decided to choose this mask as my inspiration was because I wanted to incorporate nature into this project. With the sugar skull mask, I wanted to include my heritage. Being Mexican, I was raised to appreciate the art and the culture and the first thing that came to mind were the sugar skills used when celebrating the day of the dead. The sugar skull mask inspired me to use color because with these types of mask it is all about expressing creativity and using any color. Also, its an inspiration to use different shapes, as you can see in the example, there are multiple shapes along the eyes, the forehead, and mouth.  As for the other two masks, I looked at those as inspiration for texture. Having had the flowers in the first example, I wanted to go along with the theme of nature and incorporate texture through branches. It would be a cool idea to have branches sticking out of the mask to tie in with the aesthetic of my mask.   I enj...

M10 VIDEO REVIEW

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.      The reason I selected both the Hinduism video and the Buddhism video was because I realized that both were traditions I never really learned about. I had been aware of both, yet I was not informed much about their beliefs, customs and values. Watching both videos, I gained knowledge on their lifestyle and how both groups see life, which was all really interesting.  2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.      For the Buddhism video, the interesting concept I picked up was that the key to Buddha's teaching is Tahnha, the desire for pleasure, position, and possession. It is everything that would feed the ego to represent enlightenment. Since his mission was to share his enlightenment, by proclaiming the basic message of love.        For the Hinduism video, what I gathered from it was that the great rive...

EXPLORING LINE

Image
1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?    Using my hand as a subject matter for a drawing was something I have done before. For my visual arts course, I was to do the same exact concept. Although it wasn't my first time, it still doesn't get easier. It felt weird having to stare and study my hand in order for it to come out similar. 2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?      The media I selected was charcoal. At first my intention was to use a pencil, however I realized that I never really used charcoal. I figured using charcoal would be a new challenge for me, especially since I've used pencils before. In fact, I am glad I ended up using the charcoal because as soon as it hit the paper it just glided on. I found the charcoal to be much smoother and I was able to be more flexible when it came to drawing both hands.  3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand? ...

M9 VIDEO REVIEW

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.     When choosing each of the videos, I selected them based off the name of the artist. I was interested in getting to know more about Michelangelo and Leonardo De Vinci simply because I remember being taught about them in high school. In previous art classes, I heard about their tools and techniques and the impact both of them had on art.  2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.      For The Drawings of Michelangelo video, I picked up on the concept of daily hatching. It is the motion of strokes going up and down. It was interesting to see how artist find hatching such a difficult process, when to the normal eye it simply looks like lines. For example, an artist was having a difficult time emulating the hatching Michelangelo did. She stated it was really hard to get such a delicate mark and such regular strokes.    ...
