MOD 12 VIDEO REVIEW
1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
- The reason I decided to watch the Andy Warhol: Images of an image, was because I have previously learned about him and how he affected the art world. I wanted to learn more about his art work and what influenced him.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
For the Andy Warhol: images of an image video, the most interesting thing I learned was how Andy never really wanted to become a an artist but a tap dancer instead. Yet, Rauschenberg’s collage suddenly triggered his desire for art and he became a famous painter too. His concept was very cool because he would cut out advertisements in newspapers and enlarged them with a projector.
For the, Art of Henry Moore video, It was interesting to know that Henry Moore tried drawing everything, anywhere. He began drawing anything from animals, trees and then figures. For him the figure was always important, and yet he found himself going back to human figures every time, because it was something that infatuated him.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the art because in the reading, it went more into depth on Andy Warhol how the art affected the 60's and 70's. During this time, pop art was a new interesting concept for the art world and it was something Andy was a part of. The way the directions that had been set out in the previous decade was continued, questioned and complicated by new trends.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion on the videos is that they are a very big help on understanding what the text is stating. For example, the text went into depth on Andy Warhol and how he used the image of Marilyn Monroe face. He used the image in dozens of works, by printing it multiple times across the canvas, like newspapers rolling off the press. The way he colored the image with silkscreen, garishly and clumsily. This was something the text book mentioned, yet the video provided more examples.
