ART MATERIAL EXPLORATION #1

Image
  1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel. In general, creating both the value scale and color wheel was very fun and entertaining. What I noticed with the color wheel, was that I felt more carefree and there was a feeling of calmness that came over me when painting, which I really seemed to enjoy. Yet, with the scale, I felt more pressure for it to look perfect, which I believe made it harder for me to actually get done. It was difficult to make the shadings darker, because at one point they were all looking the same shade, and I had to constantly go back and make a box darker. 2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why? I enjoyed working with the color wheel the best because I did find the Value Scale much difficult. With the color wheel, I felt more like a child just painting, stress free. However, with the scale, I felt like it had to be more perfect, and I wasn't as content with it. The color wheel allowed for more ge...

PROJECT #1

https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipN_xlAChe8_TYjAotmKAdo5J1B85ruM5c3w_qHZ Every part of this process was extremely fun. Trying to look for images that related to the elements and principle wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I started to notice the objects around me a lot more and was constantly categorizing them into which elements/principles they fit best. However, the process of being the photographer was the trickiest part for me. Finding the best angle and right lighting was difficult, especially because I was trying to capture the picture the best I could to demonstrate the elements and principles. Overall, this was a fun little project to do.

COLOR

1. Describe Color and its effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting. What we have thought to be simple colors, is merely reflected light rays. Because of Newton’s experiment, it was observed that rays of sunlight retract into what we call colors, making them elements of light. However, the reason why we see them as simple colors, is because of our physiological activity. It has been established that color in fact affects our human brain and body in ways we didn’t think possible, like our emotions. Color has the power to set our mood, therefore affecting our emotions. For instance, when we think or see the color red, we immediately associate the color with feelings of anger, or danger. This is because color provides symbolism and meanings behind a specific color that clings in a psychological sense. 2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why? A theoretical aspect of color that fascinates me the most is the t...

ASTHETICS

1. For video #1, the key concepts I learned from this film was there was pressure throughout the years on theories. Yet, the most pressuring problem that was faced in the 20th century and is still being debated is the notion of art itself. From video #2, the key points I gathered from both neurologists were how there can be different insights into our brain and perception, and those qualities are what make up the human experiences of aesthetics and art.  Lastly, from the CNN article, what stuck to me the most is the way our brain activity and art go hand in hand. How our brain responds to the art through familiarity, illusions, emotions, etc. It's interesting to know our brain has an impact on the things we least expected.  2.  The theory, I believe to be most important, is the expression theory of art, by Leo Tolstoy. Leo was a philosopher from the 18th century, who believed that art is the expression of emotion. For me, when I look at art, I always seem...

First Blog

1. The process of creating the GMail account and setting up the blog was fairly easy. This wasn't my first time having to create an email, so i knew exactly what to do. 2. From this course, I expect to explore the history behind the concept of art, by learning about the tools used, the designs, etc. 3. Taking an online course is a bit nerve wracking, only because its a common mistake to fall off track. However, if you stay on top of things it can also be pretty easy.   4. One thing that applied to me from the Growth Mind video was how learning something new can be scary. Scary because if this thing we are trying is foreign to us, it can be very difficult to want to keep doing it because of that fear. Leaving NYC to come to school in buffalo also applied to me, I left my friends and family to only meet more people that I now consider close friends and family. In the end, everything turned out okay. Lastly, I believe I am a student with a growth mindset, because I believe ...
