COLOR

1. Describe Color and its effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting.
What we have thought to be simple colors, is merely reflected light rays. Because of Newton’s experiment, it was observed that rays of sunlight retract into what we call colors, making them elements of light. However, the reason why we see them as simple colors, is because of our physiological activity. It has been established that color in fact affects our human brain and body in ways we didn’t think possible, like our emotions. Color has the power to set our mood, therefore affecting our emotions. For instance, when we think or see the color red, we immediately associate the color with feelings of anger, or danger. This is because color provides symbolism and meanings behind a specific color that clings in a psychological sense.
2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why?
A theoretical aspect of color that fascinates me the most is the traditional color theory. Which states, primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) are the foundations for other colors, meaning, those primary colors with combinations, can make up any other colors. This is fascinating, because not only do I vaguely remember being taught this in elementary school, but now as I am older and able to understand, it still is a bit of a shock that all colors are in fact dependent on light and there is no actual object that can possess color in a natural way.
3. In the Color videos, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and its effects on emotions?
The biggest impact in regards to color and its effect on emotions, was the understanding that colors are unpredictable and difficult to control. Because color is used to express, a certain color can forcibly cause someone to feel a specific emotion. When, the artist was trying to recreate her painting, she wanted to make sure her painting was all about the feeling it gave to her, because as she mentioned, at the end of the day it’s how about it makes YOU feel. It’s about the feeling that color evokes, that we should hang on to and appreciate.
