ART MATERIAL EXPLORATION #1
1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel.
In general, creating both the value scale and color wheel was very fun and entertaining. What I noticed with the color wheel, was that I felt more carefree and there was a feeling of calmness that came over me when painting, which I really seemed to enjoy. Yet, with the scale, I felt more pressure for it to look perfect, which I believe made it harder for me to actually get done. It was difficult to make the shadings darker, because at one point they were all looking the same shade, and I had to constantly go back and make a box darker.
2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why?
I enjoyed working with the color wheel the best because I did find the Value Scale much difficult. With the color wheel, I felt more like a child just painting, stress free. However, with the scale, I felt like it had to be more perfect, and I wasn't as content with it. The color wheel allowed for more gentle painting strokes and didn't feel as harsh as the scale did.
3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies?
The most important thing I gathered from the creations of both those studies, was that control and precision was very important. Maybe it was just me, but I found myself using a light hand at first, and once I was comfortable, I was able to go in to make those shades darker on the scale.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the videos? The videos did give us information on how to create both the scale and wheel. They provided examples of each look, with tips and tricks to help us understand and create the finished product. With the value scale video, it showed the artist using an eraser to help smoothen out the harshness of the pencil, which is a trick I used when creating mine. As for the painting video, it demonstrated how the colors should be mixed, so there would be no confusion, which was a big help. Overall, the videos did a great job showing what needed to be done.
