ASTHETICS

1. For video #1, the key concepts I learned from this film was there was pressure throughout the years on theories. Yet, the most pressuring problem that was faced in the 20th century and is still being debated is the notion of art itself. From video #2, the key points I gathered from both neurologists were how there can be different insights into our brain and perception, and those qualities are what make up the human experiences of aesthetics and art. Lastly, from the CNN article, what stuck to me the most is the way our brain activity and art go hand in hand. How our brain responds to the art through familiarity, illusions, emotions, etc. It's interesting to know our brain has an impact on the things we least expected.

2. The theory, I believe to be most important, is the expression theory of art, by Leo Tolstoy. Leo was a philosopher from the 18th century, who believed that art is the expression of emotion. For me, when I look at art, I always seem to question the feeling behind what I am looking at. Therefore, I agree with this theory, that art is about feelings and emotions, and how sharing similar emotions can bring people in together, through the art.

3. What I found the most interesting about Changeux's scientific view of aesthetics and art, was his belief that there is a genetic envelope to the origin of art and aesthetics. How the work of art is based on human production and the artistic creations are done by our brains. It explains the effects on emotions and our conscious and non-conscious processes. Just like the article, it would make perfect sense why the brain activity and art correlate. However, Ramachandra's view on aesthetics and art are quite different. For me, it was interesting to see the examples he used. The examples used, helped to further understand why he believes that art is about asserting individuality. Instead of our brain having effects on the art, Ramachandra believes, work of art has powerful effects on human minds.
 4. Based on the videos and article, I found that these relate in ways I did not expect. For example, the first video and the article related through the theories and our brain. I understood both concepts and found that perhaps all these different theories on aesthetics were created by those artist because of their brain activity and how it responded to art. Therefore, it would explain why there were so many theories, because not everyone's brain works in the exact same way.
5. Both the films and article, helped interpret aesthetics and art. From all those different theories of aesthetics, to the different opinions between neurologist, and the article on the responding of the brain, they all added a more depth understanding of what it is we see when it comes to art. However, everything goes back to how our brain determines art/aesthetics and how we have evolved and how we will continue to evolve.
