PROJECT #2 ART GALLERY VISIT #1
A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
The first piece of artwork that made an impression on me was, Mother and Son, by Nancy Dwyer. The moment I saw this piece I immediately felt a sense of selfishness and protection. Just by looking at this painting, her love and adoration for her son was portrayed through the way she was staring into his eyes. Overall, the painting and her affection towards him spoke louder than if I were to read a background on this picture.

The piece, Untitled #901 by, Robert Swain, also made an impression on me. With this painting, it brought a sense of happiness, with its wide range of bright colors. It was also cool to see the way the colors were portioned into small boxes, with the lightest colors contrasted against the darker colors. It was also fun too see the way color was incorporated in the simplest, yet coolest way.

B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
The artwork I felt I had a connection with, was the Falling Man, by Rashid Johnson. The instance I saw this piece, I knew the base was once a mirror, however, it was a mirror that had been broken down, shattered, and destroyed. After having read some background on the piece, and the African American identity behind it, I instantly felt drawn to it. As a criminal justice major, the topic of African Americans who have fallen into victims of gun violence, has been an issue that as a criminal justice major, I would love to shed light on. To acknowledge where our system has gone wrong, and to bring awareness to the mistakes that have been caused. This piece was beautiful to look it, and I’d recommend everyone to go and have a look.
Another piece, in which I felt a connection with was, Estude pour “Le ponte de I’Europe”, by Gustave Caillebotte. This work out, wasn't the most attractive to me, however, looking at the man, in the midst of his thinking, made this piece feel personal. I tried putting myself in his shoes, wondering what he could possibly be thinking about, or what issues caused him to need space to think. The reason I felt a connection, was because at some point in each and everyone of our lives, we have had moments where we needed space and quiet to just think and be alone.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
Out of all artworks, the piece I would like to know more about is by Yuji Agematsu. This artwork of shelves, containing small objects found throughout New York City. The reason i’d want to know more is because I feel like, since each of these objects once belonged to a person, it would be amazing to find out more about that person and their story, especially in a big city like NYC. To find out how a small piece of gum wrapper, or hair pin, can tell you something about an individual. If anything, this piece brings out lots of questions and mysteriousness.
Another piece of artwork that I would like to know more about is Le Pientre Ker-Xavier Roussel et sa fille, by Edouard Vuillard. Whilst looking at this piece, I found myself questioning the relationship between the man and little girl. Before reading the information card, I had already assumed this was a father and daughter, however, what I couldn't quite get from simply looking at this picture was the type of relationship they had. The longer I looked at it, the more it seemed to me that there was resentment coming from the father. Although it's impossible to figure out the entire story behind this painting, just by looking at it, I did feel those emotions coming from the father.
