M7 VIDEO REVIEW

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

     Based on the, Science of Design video, something interesting I took away from it was, the fact that architects and urban planners don't always necessarily see eye to eye, when it comes to housing situations. Some of them see skyscrapers as a benefit and solution to housing issues. However, others are opposed because they would prefer to see houses integrated into nature and the environment. 

    With the Architecture as Art video, what I learned was that, Gehry as an architect likes to create buildings that also create an emotional response to an environment, as well as create something that interacts with us humans. He believes that there should be a sense of feeling and expression in the building. Its something I never really thought of, however, I now understand why its important, because it can make a connection with people which makes it humanistic. 

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
   - The videos and the text relate because they give us an in depth sense of the structural systems that architects have to follow. For example, both the text and the science of design video, discussed how the construction of high buildings are important, and require different kinds of foundations. A technique mentioned, consisted of driving steel, wood, or concrete piles that were placed into the ground until it turns rock solid, that way it can support the weight of the building. 

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?

   The videos are a great help when it comes to understanding the depth of architecture. The good thing about these videos is that, they always provide artist who gives us details that sometimes a text book cant. Also, hearing their experiences, and how informed and passionate they are about architecture, gives us an inside look on what it is exactly the text book talks about. 

4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?

   The reason I chose the film, Science of design, was because it spoke about smart houses and the types of electronics used. It was cool to see how before, they needed to train a computer to tell it what to do. However now, we have things like Siri, and Alexa, that can do what we tell them to, without having to train them ourselves. 

     As for, Architecture as Art, I wanted to hear the opinions of an architecture on buildings and sculptures and I actually found out, that Gehry believes that buildings are sculptures but it can also be quite different. He states that each have their own terrain, and domain, and can always learn from one another.
